The music industry stands at a turning point. While AI-generated songs become increasingly popular, concerns among musicians about their own artistic and economic future are growing. The rapid development of this technology raises no less than the question: What is music still worth when it can be produced by machines at any time?
An answer to this question comes - surprisingly down-to-earth - from Kleve on the Lower Rhine. There, Detlev Alaze is working on a project that combines both: human creativity and artificial intelligence. With the "Alaze Quantum Project," he creates soundscapes that are technically brilliant and emotionally charged - while remaining firmly rooted in personal stories.
Genre diversity: From Reggae to Protest-Folk
"Birth of the Blues," one of his recent tracks, encapsulates it perfectly: A platform for music lovers praised the piece as "a search for soul, substance, and respect that resonates across generations." The music - they continue - is "both bold and full of subtle nuances." And this is precisely where the strength of Alaze's work lies: For him, technology doesn't become a replacement, but a tool for emotional depth.
He himself shapes the concepts and creative process, while the lyrics and musical implementation are accomplished through AI-supported production technology. The result is a cross-genre spectrum of pieces: from reggae to protest folk, from country to rock. The inspiration for his music lies in conveying authentic feelings - without exaggeration.
From IT entrepreneur to music visionary
"Every song emerges from a personal vision or story that I bring to life in collaboration with modern AI technology," Alaze describes his approach on his website. And you quickly notice: This isn't a tech geek speaking, but a passionate musician with a sense for authenticity.
The path to becoming a musician was anything but straightforward for Alaze. Born in Emsdetten, he came to Kleve 40 years ago, founded and managed several IT companies - until he eventually sold them. But the fascination with technology remained. "My passion for this field is still unbroken," he explains. As a self-described "retiree," he began seven years ago to devote himself entirely to his long-cherished dream. Not a day goes by that he doesn't engage with music.

From ukulele course to band formation
The beginning? A ukulele course at the adult education center - which didn't take place. But from the contact with the course instructor emerged a private connection that paved Alaze's entry into music. Soon followed lessons, joint projects, first own pieces - and finally the co-founding of the band Nasty Little Fly in 2021. Today, the band meets weekly to practice, several songs are already available on Spotify, and their own CD is being planned. Alaze even gives lessons for the instrument himself now.
The ukulele plays a major role in the musician's life.
But the musician's focus has long been on what drives him today: the connection between music and AI. From initial experiments grew a serious project that has long since found international listeners - all without major advertising campaigns. "I'm not concerned with commercial success, but with the realization of my own ideas through music," says Alaze.

Die rasante Entwicklung dieser Technologie stellt nicht weniger als die Frage: Was ist Musik noch wert, wenn sie jederzeit von Maschinen produziert werden kann?
Eine Antwort auf diese Frage kommt – überraschend bodenständig – aus Kleve am Niederrhein. Dort arbeitet Detlev Alaze an einem Projekt, das beides miteinander vereint: menschliche Kreativität und künstliche Intelligenz. Vom IT-Unternehmer zum Musikvisionär

Und man merkt schnell: Hier spricht kein Technikfreak, sondern ein leidenschaftlicher Musiker mit einem Gespür für Authentizität.
Der Weg zum Musiker war für Alaze alles andere als geradlinig. Der gebürtige Emsdettener kam vor 40 Jahren nach Kleve, gründete und leitete mehrere IT-Unternehmen – bis er sie schließlich verkaufte. Doch die Faszination für Technologie blieb. „Meine Leidenschaft für dieses Metier ist nach wie vor ungebrochen“, erklärt er. Als selbst beschriebener „Ruheständler“ begann er vor sieben Jahren, sich ganz seinem langen gehegten Traum zu widmen. Es vergeht kein Tag, an dem er sich nicht mit Musik auseinandersetzt.

Vom Ukulelen-Kurs zur Bandgründung
Der Anfang? Ein Ukulelen-Kurs an der Volkshochschule – der nicht stattfand. Doch aus dem Kontakt zum Kursleiter entstand eine private Verbindung, die Alaze den Einstieg in die Musik ebnete. Bald folgten Unterricht, gemeinsame Projekte, erste eigene Stücke – und schließlich die Mitbegründung der Band Nasty Little Fly im Jahr 2021. Heute trifft sich die Band wöchentlich zum Proben, mehrere Songs sind bereits auf Spotify verfügbar, eine eigene CD ist in Planung. Alaze gibt mittlerweile sogar selbst Unterricht für das Instrument.
